Marseille airport
Officially named as Aéroport Marseille Provence, the Marseille airport is about 25 kilometres North-West to the city centre and is considered among the most important French airports for traffic of passengers.
It is composed of two terminals, respectively named Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, the latter being hosted in a separate building.
In 2018, works of renovation and expansion took place in the Terminal 2, and the polycarbonate system Reverspiù was used there as vertical glazing.
ReversPiù is a product with a co-extruded UV protective layer on both sides of the panel and with the possibility of two different jointing channels, in polycarbonate and in aluminium, which correspond as many applications to: the jointing channel in polycarbonate is installed facing outwards and ensures a greater uniformity in the passage of light as well as minor noise connected to the expansion of the sheets; on the contrary, the jointing channel in aluminium is installed facing inwards, leaving in this way the outer side of the building completely flat and smooth. Thanks to better statics, the product guarantees also a higher withstand capability to wind loads and to snow loads in case of roofing applications.
When using a polycarbonate jointing channel, the panels are fastened to the main structure through special clamps in stainless steel. While, when using an aluminium jointing channel, the panels are fixed through the profile.
In both cases, the system allows for a free expansion of the sheets due to changes in temperature, while keeping them firmly fastened to the main structure.
In the project for the terminal 2 of the Marseille airport, the 20mm thick ReversPiù panels were used for the renovation of the six boarding halls and for the creation of two new ones.
Thanks to the characteristics of translucency of polycarbonate and to the possibility of manufacturing sheets in any colour, the main façade was renewed with a remarkable aesthetical finish.
For this application, our material was integrated with compatible adhesive films, so as to set up a graphic pattern recalling the logo of the airport directly on the polycarbonate façade.
